Dr. Owais Shaikh completed his PhD with Magna-cum-Laude from Ludwig Maximilians Universität (Munich University), Germany.

He wrote his PhD dissertation on impact of exclusive right on pharmaceutical approval data on access to medicine at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich. His thesis was published as a book by Springer.

Owais also has a LLM in Intellectual Property from University of Augsburg. Apart from these, he holds an MBA and a BBA from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.  

Owais teaches Intellectual Property Law at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law in Karachi where he is also leads the Department of Law. He is also a Tutor for IP Management at the World Intellectual Property Organization Academy and acts as a mentor to technology startups and counsels them in IP protection. He has worked as Management Consultant with Siemens AG in Germany as well as Assistant Director at the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan where he assisted the Registrar Trade Marks in ex-parte hearings. Apart from the traditional areas of IP law, he is interested in the interface of law and emerging technologies such as AI, specifically robotics and Big Data, with a focus on developing countries.
